Welcome to Milwaukee! So read the sign in my head as the bus pulled up the the curb, and all 60 of us traveling in it spilled out onto the cold street. We rushed into our first destination of our weekend trip: an hour and a half of head-ache-making Milwaukee Symphony. The music was wonderful...for a one time experience. I will not be going back.

Now I'm sitting in a comfortable easy chair in our room at the Sheritan Hotel, lamenting the fact that breakfast tomorrow is at 6:30am. Will I survive the day in Chicago? I guess we'll see...

  3. Hello! How is this for a blast from the past? I think the last time I saw you and the 4ESO class in Catalunya was in December 2008. Just now I was reading a totally unrelated cooking blog when I thought I'd check on my old Pureza blog for old time's sake and saw a comment you had posted way back then and, click, I found myself reading your current blog from...Wisconsin! Talk about culture shock. It will easily take you a year or more to acclimate. I say this from experience. My family now lives in Atlanta, Georgia. After a year and a half in Madrid, my husband undertook the grand adventure of opening a new factory for a Catalan company outside of Atlanta. I had to come over on my own with the three boys, find a house, find a job, get them in school all in a matter for 2 weeks. Amazingly, it worked out. I teach Spanish (ha ha!) at a private school called The Wood Acres School and all three boys go there. I'd say I had a hard time with things for a good 5 months. Then it started getting better. Then my husband finally moved over and we went back to having a hard time adjusting. Now, nearly 2 years later, my boys are little Americans. Ni rastro of their Catalan days. And they haven't been back even once to see the abuelos. The tickets are just too expensive. So, is the weather warming up? I went to Carleton College in Northfield MN and grew up in Chicago so I know the area. My parents live in Madison. Well, I hope your adjustment is coming along. There's no way to rush it but it will come. Is your family still in Spain? From your parents' posts it sounds like it. Do you keep in touch with any of the students at Pureza? Would they all be freshman now too or sophomores? Good to read about you. Take care! Melissa (my students now have to call me SeƱora Koop!)
